Celebrating Valentine’s Day in 2020

This mini quilt was from Barn Block Mini Quilt Series pattern. The fabric was from my stash I have been building over the years. It is a pleasure to hunt through the stash and know you have found a fabric and pattern match.

Below is another look, from the back side, at the free motion stitching. Up at top is the hanging sleeve. The sleeve is a 2.5” x 9” strip with the short ends hemmed. Then the strip is folded in half and ironed. The raw edges of strip is lined up with raw edge at the top of the mini quilt on the back side and sewn along the raw edge with 1/4” seam. Add binding to finish mini quilt. Then blind stitch the fold of the strip to quilt so it will hang without the sleeve pulling up and showing from the front.

There was no pattern for the two heart mini quilts below. Both are 2.5” squares sewn together to make a 12” x 12” square. For the heart, 4 blocks were sewn together and then the heart was fussy cut to get the look wanted. After fusing heart to squares and creating the sandwich of batting and backing, the hearts were satin stitched. The heart on left was echo stitched. After the binding was completed the mini quilt on left had purse corners added. The mini quilt on the right had heart buttons added.

Here hoping Valentine’s Day 2021 is special in a happy way for everyone.
