I started this Storm at Sea pattern back in August. First, I used my new EQ8 software and scanned the fabrics provided by Melody to put in EQ8 sketchbook. Then I took a cell phone picture of the screen to send the design to Melody for approval.

Once I had Melody’s approval I cut and sewed a sample block to assure myself I could do it. I used scrap material. Probably should have done the sample block before I sent the design for approval. LOL. Always a learning curve.

Two months later the blocks are together. Each block has 65 pieces and there are 12 blocks (780 pieces.) A lot of sewing. I was averaging a block a day until I saw jmn’s blog and was encouraged by her to try some chain stitching. I’m not a lot faster but progressing. I did 3 blocks in 2 days with chain stitching.
All that is left to finish the quilt top is to sew the borders. I haven’t done mitered corners in awhile. So I pulled out the sample block and did mitered borders on it for practice and to refresh my memory.

Then thanks to another blogger, quirksltd, I decided to try wash away fusible interfacing for template for FMQ. It works well but, I think I need to use my heat erase pens to draw designs instead of printer. I’m concerned the printer ink will not wash out in the light block where I got ahead of myself and tried to remove a piece of interfacing before I was finished FMQ and washed the block in washing machine.

I have figured out part of FMQ for sample block. If anyone has ideas for rest of the block let me know in comments. In particular, I’m struggling with ideas for the FMQ of diamond shapes.

That must be an extra special friend. I don’t think I could even do that one for myself. Wow! It’s beautiful but way above my capacity. You can try alcohol on the ink if it doesn’t wash out. That’s what I use to get ink out of things. Printer ink may be different though. Haven’t tried that yet.

Thanks for the compliment and the suggestion to use alcohol. I hadn’t thought of that.

Nice work! I made one a few years ago and it took forever!

Thanks for the compliment. Yes. It is going to take awhile. I’m lucky the friend who asked for it is in no hurry. She did ask for a second one though. I’m pushing through.
