A baby was on the way so Melody wanted a baby quilt to celebrate. This quilt, “Come Sail Away,” was designed by Chris Malone. I ordered the pattern from Annie’s Craft Store. I followed the pattern with the exception of adding a turtle in one of the squares.
The turtle design came from pattern called “Shell We Dance” designed by Karen Brow. I want to make this turtle quilt one day.
I satin stitched around all the appliqués. Then I put the sandwich together and quilted with broad wavy lines. The blocks in this quilt (pictured below) are eight inch squares and the final measurement was 40” x 48”.

I was pleased with the back. I had to sew two pieces together to make the back. I barely disturbed the dots.
While I like designing and working on quilts, it does make you appreciate the times you have a pattern. This was a fun quilt to put together and it’s always a joy to work on a project for Melody.
